It only took a year to get my little Krico right again after I tried bedding it

So now I'm thinking how to fark it up again. I was thinking of taking the varnish off the stock and painting it with a black woodstain

What do you use to get the varnish off??

Citristrip will loosen the Varnish up.It may take a couple of coats but once it has bubbled and blistered up take it out to he kitchen sink and use a scrubbing brush and hot water.

Tell me you are not going to use Tru-oil .Which is a misnomer as it has very little if any oil in its composition.

I was going to go to bunnings and buy some woodstain. Thats as technical as I was going to get.

then I was thinking if its stained the colour I want, how you get a nice dull sheen, like the Boyds sort of finish?

You could just spray it tacticool Matt black and be done with it!

Bunnings do not sell citristrip but polystrippa paint and varnish stripper is the same amount of the same active ingredient. Bunnings sell it.

The dull look can be achieved with tung, linseed and turps, the level of sheen will come with how much you polish it. This is if you want old school. Andrew has played with this stuff way more than me now and probably has a better recipe sorted.

It wasn't that long ago you were the prince of plastic. Just like with wine it can take years for a palate to develop

No no my good Dr. This is the case of a crappy stock on a cheap rifle that I can play with.

I was seriously considering asking Andrew how much to finish a Wolverine thumbhole from Richards and ordering the kindling version but I will just order laminate as per normal. I do like his work but I would also cry if beautiful wood got scratched and dented as it invariably does with use

Very close Travis but I don`t use hack,spit Linseed oil and Gum Turpentine instead of Mineral turps.

Thanks for the compliment Trevor But can I suggest mate forget the wood stain.When you go down the hardware to grab your paint strippa grab a small tin of Feast Watson Fine Buffing oil and follow the instruction exactly.Did I mention read and follow the instructions exactly !!!!You will be surprised whats under the finish on some stocks just ask Jasonf.
