Howa 1500 .243 to 6BR?

Post by Tezza »

G'day lads and lasses,
Have been toying with the idea of a possible future project. I'd like to own a varminter in 6BR, and I know people have had Howa's re-chambered to 6BR before and use the AI mags (think I read something by GregT on the subject some time ago), but does anyone know of anyone having any luck getting a Howa, or any other rechambered action for that matter, to feed 6BR from an internal magazine?

Also, does anybody know of any gunsmiths in Victoria that do work on Howa's?

Cheers team,
Hoo roo

Tezza

Mick, don't worry mate, my eyes still on your Savage .260 ;)

I think I'm out of contention then mate, by the time I've finished 50 odd days at sea without pulling into a port, any money I've got will more than likely be pissed up against the proverbial. She's a bloody nice rifle though, could've killed my tax man........actually, it was the missus tax man that let me down.......bastard. How've you gone from having to get rid of the Savage because Erica said you've got too many guns to your current shopping spree   :rifle:

I did a howa 22-250 to 22BRX. It worked ok, couldnt get 5 in the internal mag so I worked with 4 and it fed better. 243 it might pay to check with some dummy rounds if you can find some to see how they cycle. Might need to put some spacers in the mag box. In terms of the barrel, if you sitting on some cash mate just get a good match grade barrel and be done with it. You wont have any issues with it. A mate uses 70gr noslers with 34gr 2208 and CCI450's in his 6BR and it drives tacks. He consistently shoots groups in the 0.1" range at 100m off his bipod and a rear bag.

Thanks very much for the advice Brad, much appreciated mate. I was going to stick to the Howa barrel, but I think I'll take your advice.

Cheers.
