Crud Ring In Barrel

Hey Peoples

I looked down the old Swede the other night and noticed a ring of crud/stuff approx 100 - 150mm from the chamber, is this carbon buildup or corrosion? I have been using 2209 but some of the last rounds only 3 used 2217 not sure if it makes a difference.

I have been using wipeout which seems to do a good job. I since have scrubbed it with a brush, pretty sure the wipeout came out brown the first time which is carbon... or corrosion would be similar color, which got rid of it but is it an ongoing problem, is it carbon?? Can it cause me safety/pressure issue's?

Will keep an eye on it and see if it redevelops after the scrub.

Cheers

Ryan

Ryan,
If it is the first time you have noticed it, I would use as per normal, however if at the range, remove the bolt between shots to see if you can observe the build up as it occurs.
If hunting not always possible.

Clean your rifle as per your normal regimen, and observe barrel after a few weeks in the safe.

That way you will be able to see if its a carbon buildup or corrosion.

A dehumidifier in the safe may be usefull to delay corrosion, i know it helps heaps in darwin.

Run a patch through it mate, see what colour comes out! if she's a red/brown ya got rust, if she's the grey/black you just got carbon etc.
