Yesterday whilst out at Silverdale and whilst reminiscing a story my Grandfather would tell me of how he would reform military 30/06 brass down to 243 (long before Winchester put their monika to it) and also thinking about the bullshit laws that Fat man O'Farrel recently introduced I decided to inspect the ever growing pile of discarded brass and in this, I miraculously found 30 once fired 243 Norma cases and with this omen I quickly put them in my pocket (I also found 15 or so 375 H&H cases).

I've since ran a few of the 243 cases through the FL 6 X 47 Lapua die for a few spare range cases-some have turned out quite nicely, others have been an absolute tragedy and will end up binned, however, it's since got me thinking, is there anyone else out there reforming brass for this caliber (using the larger flash hole) and what would the process be to resize from 6 X 47 Lapua to 6mm BR..?

I've no intention of using this brass in the 6BR just curious about the process and whether it can be done successfully.

I'm also contemplating a resize from 30/06 to 6mm BR...?

Ive noted with the first initial test case that I ran through the 6 X 47 Lapua die and having ran it through the FL die 3-4 times and then having since trimmed the neck to length and turned the neck down to spec that I can't close the bolt.

Any suggestions?

I was wondering the same thing Sean but using the 308 Palma brass to form 6.5x47L or 6x47L.

At what point does it stop when you try and chamber? visually comapre with known or fired brass.

Remember when sizing down the brass will thicken as well. Have you annealed them during sizing? Not owning either don't really know the difference between the two cartridges.

I had precisely the same thoughts (resizing Palma Match 308 brass) although given the hyper inflated prices that we can expect to pay for Lapua components I'm also now looking for an alternative in brass. I also think that resizing 243 or 308 brass will provide greater longevity. I've also since heard that quite a few NRA shooters are now resizing and running Nosler 308 brass due to the run on Lapua and attributed shortage.

It would be grand if Bertram began producing brass for this caliber and perhaps if we queried with an expression of interest and commitment from two dozen or so of us he would produce it, he would no doubt have to change the spec slightly (decrease the beginning of the shoulder by 10 thou and leave it for the shooter to fire form in their chamber) as I'm adamant that Lapua have this case tied up.

I'll call Bertram tomorrow and sound him out, if anyone would be interested in purchasing Bertram manufactured brass for the 6 X 47 Lapua let me know via PM. It would be kind of cool having the Kangaroo on a 6 X 47 Lapua case.

It chambers nicely, I just can't close the bolt, I don't want to force it as knowing my luck the bolt will shear off or I'll end up jamming it in the chamber completely. I'll have to gauge it with the Case master.

G'day all,
me thinks it would be easier to:
a) go with a common generic case that will deliver the velocities you require or,
b) regularly buy brass/components to ensure you have enough for your sport (re 220russian shortages for the PPC) and over time small quantities become a significant resource to ensure you weather ANY shortages and like the stock market when buying shares, you average out the prices per case.
c) buy any 2nd hand brass on offer, as this will usually be of the same batch from each seller, be cheaper than retail and usually well looked after.
it's not rocket science..............just good sense. Let's try to keep the US paranoia under control and not affect good old Aus
