Now for the stock, pretty disappointed with the seller in that I was not informed that it had been shortened by about an inch, nor that there is a massive gouge that has taken out a good chunk of wood from the bottom of the pistol grip, and from the toe of the butt.

Showing the difference in length of two stock that are the same era and style, admittedly looking at the picture makes it look like there is a massive difference, it is only 1 inch

Dunno what caused these two gouges, doesn't look good, but doesn't effect anything, so Ill have to live with it.

Piece missing from the toe of the stock, will probably blend that in when I regrind the butt pad to fit properly, and maybe even give the stock a refinish.

The chequering has been refinished, and who ever did it has done a great job, its really made a big difference.

A couple of photos from this morning while putting some loads together.

Components being used.

First fully loaded round

Loaded up 35 rounds, 5 for pressure test firing, 21gn 2207 21.5gns, 22gns, 22.5gns and 23.0. I got these loads by using some information on an old Compact Cartridges article in the ASJ magazine. The max load he had listed was 22.0, so I went a bit low, and the went a bit over the top. 23gns fills the case to about 1/4 way up the neck.
I then loaded up 15 rounds at 21gns and and 15 at 22gns, just to sight in and shoot a couple of groups. Then hopefully I will be able to have a crack at a goat later on this afternoon, and there is always the need for dog meat and yabby bait.

Over all, I am pretty happy with it, the couple of gripes, while not looking good, don't detract from the function of the rifle, Ill just have to set my scope a bit further forward.

Will let you know later on how it goes in the paddock, Im starting to run out of time so better get a skidaddle on.

Thanks, no there is nothing wrong about liking it, I just don't like not being told of modifications to things that I purchase, especially when the modification does absolutely nothing.

How deep are the gouges on the bottom of the pistol grip? You might be able to reshape this area at the same time you reshape/grind for the butt pad.

Alternatively you could make a grip cap out of some interesting contrasting wood, or put a blued steel grip cap on it to cover it up.

Good 1/8th inch or deeper, and yes I did think of putting a contrasting cap on it, don't go much on the steel grip cap, though it is another option.

On another note, Murphy has again stepped up to the plate, blew a fucken tyre about 28km out of town, changed that and came back, still had about 70km of gravel road to traverse and I wasn't going to risk it with no spare. So at least I am all loaded up and ready to go in the morning.

Just no looking at the photo of the two rifle butts on the bigger iPad screen it looks like you could reshape the bottom of the pistol grip on your .250M so it slopes more to the front and perhaps take out the gouge - the side profile compared to the bottom edge of the checkering would then match the 7-08.

Yep, there is probably enough in the cap to take it back a bit and follow the original shape.

Is nostalgia another name for old and out of date, I guess the three of us fit in pretty well together.

Rainy shitty day today, but I loaded everything in the ute and went for a drive.
It shoots nicely, didn't check accuracy, just sighted it in to be an inch high at a hunnet yards, which would have been easier if I had tightened up the mounts properly. One shot good, next good, third, WTF is going on here
Then the idiot behind the butt needed to be reminded that the old reticule moving scopes do different things to image moving another and mental kick in the pants.
The first five shots were to check to see how far primers were flattening out, 21gn was mild, 21.5 was still mild but a little flatter, 22gn flatter still, 22.5 a bit more flatter and 23gn was very flat and nearly filled the primer pocket, so I reckon Ill do a bit of work around the 22gn mark.
Drove around looking for some goat type critter to poke a hole in, unfortunately with the showery shit we had all day, they were tucked up in the thick scrub and I didn't find any whereas last week they were all out and about.

I have to go out again tomorrow so Ill take it for another ride and see what eventuates.

Its a neet looking round Mark, how far does that 75 gr seat in the case down to the shoulder?

Yes Ryan, its a sweet little round alright, overall length is 2.22 inches primer to HP, approx. .25 inch into the neck, give or take a smidge (I haven't measured it) just seated so they feed through the magazine.
