Which blue paste did you end up using, or was it the liquid ?
Camel, thanks mate! I used the Birchwood Casey bluing paste kit. The only difference I could see on the boxes between the liquid and the paste was that it mentioned the paste would provide a deeper blue. I never tried the liquid so I can't comment on that but my result with the paste is a nice deep blue. Funny enough too, I still have about half a tube left after doing the whole rifle, bolt and 2 mags.... usually when you get a "kit" you get 3/4 the way through the job and run out of stuff, well at least that's what happens to me anyway haha
Ok dokey, thanks mate, I've got one of the liquid kits for touch up jobs, and I did the action on my 20/222 with it, it has lost the blue colour, but that doesn't worry me as I quite like it the way it is. I haven't done the barrel on my 7-08 yet, so might get some of the paste and give it a go.
[quote="MISSED"]I dislike the SMLE as a sporting rifle (dunno why really) but you have done a top job resurrecting that old girl.
That's a no 4 big difference Andrew
a way better action I can remember my old man being able to by a BRAND NEW SMLE for 2 Quid
and a no 4 for 5 Quid still in the greasy paper, showing my age or just a good memory Ha
I had a 303/25 No 4 peep sight and a flip up long range peep shot a mile of game with it, Ah memories.

The loads were 150gr Speer hot cor on top of 40gr of 2208 and CCI 200 LR primers.
It's whole job will be to dispatch bulk pigs in the shortest possible time so bench rest accuracy isn't required. I'm pretty impressed with how this rifle shoots for its age. After getting it hitting the dot on the bench I moved to some offhand shooting at 50m, here are the results.
Off hand at 100m
I was using my young blokes red dot but I think I will be mounting a 1-4 power scope on it in future.
BB that old girl looks fantastic! How many coats did you do? Who makes the stock should make a great sporter, plenty of knock down power and 10 in the mag

Ryan, 4 coats in total mate. I probably could have got 5 maybe even 6 coats out of the tube if I really squeezed it.
The stock is made by ATI. They are pretty well made and best if all they're cheap! I'm pretty sure cleavers are advertising them for $115 for the butt stock and fore end set, in black and also a brown color.
