Some stella works there Marcus. 👌👌

Did most all of that bog come off or is that the final, If so will oiling cause it to lift?

The bog us still there. As much as I love an oil finish I don't think it will work with the bog. I normally wet sand to fill the pores but I suspect the bog sanding dust won't be conducive to a good outcome.

This one will be done with marine varnish which should seal over the bog and timber. This stock work was only ever to develop a pattern to get a stock cut from a nice blank at some later date. I will probably bolt the .22-250 barrelled action into it and use it for a year or two to see if there are any changes or reshaping required.

Consider that whatever standard type finish you apply it will tell a story. No need to specifically hide the work you’ve done, highlight and celebrate it. Purists be damned.

G'day All,
very similar to the stocks you see from American Custom Gunmakers Guild website (https://www.acgg.org/) as well as the Book Bill Hambly Clark Jnr wrote.
An interesting book if you can find it is Michael Petrovs book on "Custom Gnmakers of the 20th Century"
The grip is a classic used in traditional shotguns and rifles for pointing as I understand it.
Its not fashionable but entirely practical.
Good luck with the testing, it looks the goods.

Stock is done - for the moment anyway.

Three coats of marine varnish rubbed back with 1200 wet and dry between each coat, with a hand rubbed Organoil wax polish as the final treatment. There was a bit of nice dark streaking and fiddleback lurking under that Rem BDL factory ‘bowling ball’ finish.

Just zeroing it in to prepare for some feral busting.
