Advice on bedding a rifle

I remember working at a gun shop in sydney and we used to charge about $80 and $40 went to the smith. I do my own and use Brownells acraglass gel works perfect every time, BUT I agree kiwi neutral or proper molding wax release agent is best. Here's a link on how to do it. but you don't need to fill the whole barrel channel with epoxy just the first inch forward of the receiver ring

Just did a quick look at pricing.
Bed and float $360
Pillar bed from $450
Seems like that is in the ball park for 3 shops in my area. Give or take $30.
Jeez I am glad of v blocks or equivalent chasis on most of my rifles. Though I did have to skim bed one of those.

Raven Luke just called me. The crappy inletting in the Boyds didn’t leave enough wood to drill out for pillars. But loads of space for bedding compound. Luke says it isn’t up to his standards aesthetically but will work well. I’m not gonna say the discounted price he came up with apart from I’m happy. I suggest you call him if you are keen as I will get down there next week

hi i do the bedding jobs at the local shop i use acra glas gel never have a problem
put the release agent on we’re you don’t think it will go don’t forget the action screws

I stopped doing bedding jobs at about the time synthetic stocks came into full swing in the mid 2000s. I used Devcon aluminium or steel compound and alloy pillars. As kickin said, you will go broke these days.
I advise to get an alloy rail stock like a H&S or B&C etc. I say that because you are actually dollars in front when there are bedding jobs and there are bedding jobs. Never seen the above mentioned stock options fail, but i have seen plenty of screwed up bedding jobs.
Below is a pic of the last bedding job i did for a bloke on a Diamondback in an SGY stock around 2005??. I charged under $100 for what took about two hours all up. Today it would be around $250. No-one will pay that these days and at anything beyond that, I'd say one needs a psychiatric assessment. It's a bedding job, not rocket science. If that's the case, what are chambering jobs going for these days?

Yeah, not rocket science but I don’t won’t to be one of those “plenty” screwed up jobs. Hence I’ll put my faith in someone with some experience.
