What is this tool you are making used for exactly ?

I watched a utube video on gunsmithing and Bro who was doing the job used a big Crescent spanner

said that was all you need.So can you tell me why you are going to so much trouble.?

I mean you could have taken the rifle to a reputable gunsmith.

Update.

With all the horror stories of action/barrel separation on A Bolts in the back of my mind, it was time to get the job done.

To say I am surprised with how easily it came apart would be a huge understatement. One third less torque required than a Tikka T3. The best part of all this is I now will have a switchable barrel setup. Image

Well I'll be, not a mark on the action. Amazing what happens when you have the correct tool for the job eh Glen.
Keep us updated on this one.

The only problem with using a Browning is getting the barrel off. I was going to make an internal action wrench but research revealed that would end in disaster so I have started to make an external wrench. Again, being a Browning again has it's difficulties, that being the action shape , half round and half hexagon.

The wrench will be made from some of Toyotas finest steel, which is removed when a towbar is fitted. When finished, it will look kinda like a conrod.

Setup for facing prior to drilling, tapping and cutting the wrench in half

And here I was thinking you were going to use that piece of square tube aluminium in the background for the build-up of a cheap tube gun stock. :P

That ally in the background is an electro/hydraulic ram capable of lifting 1.25 tonne. It runs off 240v ac

Wish my barrel would hurry up. On the upside, I have 199 cases formed, cut, neck turned, Fl sized and trimmed to length. Wish my barrel would hurry up.

Bit of an update.

Machined up some barrel pins to align the bore

Image

And looked at disassembling the bolt. Thought it would be a bit like a tikka but it was a lot like a Remington. So I made one of these

Image

That fits over this

Image

And then made this to fit over that
