Camel wrote:Thanks mate, I reckon it would be a reasonably simple job, they are hardened but a quick anneal, drill them out and then heat and quench in some oil would probably do the job, its not as if I was going to do it to any of my Redding or RCBS dies. Will give it a go today. Might even get adventurous and try making a couple of correct sized seating stems.
I had my redding 6.5x55 bushing and seater die reamed out with my AI die as they wouldn't fit. Had them done by the new owner of cast bullet engineering cheap and quick. Was lucky my lee seater works for AI cases too so I could still do some testing. I have a separate vustome AI FLS die.

So yes they usually can be done.

Would it be possible to see how a diagram or cross section of them inside. I have seen lots of home made bushing type forming dies online just not sure exactly the best design.

There's a few little things that need to be changed before I make another set.

what went wrong in the first attempt?

And have you made it all from scratch? like even the stem and the knurled nuts on the top or do you buy a blank and convert it?

I just wasn't happy with the finish on the first one and the bushing pocket was too deep so if I wasn't careful I could crush the cases. The stem I bought in from sinclair time vs cost far cheaper to buy them. I had made the body's from scratch and bought blanks to use I'll probably go down the blank path as it saves me a lot more time and keeps the costs down on them.
