Howa if you find one. I would do one in a tikka as well simply because there's not a lot of tidying up to do.

So whats the advantage of a post 64 action for a platform to build a rifle?

If you mean a CRF one, the advantage is it's CRF! ;)

Seriously though, I have my DG 416Ruger built on a CRF M70 and my 9.3x62 built on a PF one, and both are nice actions.

I prefer them over the Zasty as they're better finished and have the 3 position wing safety rather than the tang/trigger one on the M98 clones.

Another option is a custom action....something like a Stiller or Pierce for a Rem clone, or the Montana for a Pre64/M98 hybrid at way less than a GMA or Dakota equivalent. I have one on order! ;)

JeffK,
I was of the understanding that the Post '64 action was a push feed type, not a CRF?

I might look into the Montana actions, who did you go through?

You can get both, depending on model. The Classic models are CRF, the others PF. Not sure about the very latest ones though......

For the Montana's, my smith is bringing a bunch in.....he may sell an action rather than complete rifle if he has any left unspoken for, so if you're interested, PM and I'll pass on his details. I expect it will be a while before they land though.

Expanding a bit on what Jeff said, the newer Model 70's have combined elements of the pre 64 (CRF) and post 64 (PF) to create the new "Model 70 Classic" action. FWIW I reckon that the whole CRF thing is a bit over blown. I think having a slick push feed action that doesn't gall and a single stack mag will never give you feed issues especially if you train your self to never short stroke the bolt.

Funnily enough I just throw rounds loose into the ejection port on my 30-06 once the mag is empty and I have never had one jam. This is over a couple of thousand rounds of which about half would have been just thrown into the port. It's a push feed tikka. You couldn't do that on a CRF winchester or Zastava. If you go magnum in a Tikka though you would need to replace the alloy recoil lug with a stainless one.

I have several push feeds and have used a few CRF's, personally I prefer a good push feed. The CRF's I used were all a bit sticky with the bolt. But if you polished one up I am sure they would be great.

Cheers DrG,
I have both CRF and PF actions, in various calibers, and have to admit to not really having a preference.

I am/was looking into the Zastava actions simply as they are a Mauser action - I am quite taken with them.
Though a good Custom or Semi-Custom action may just be on the cards.
By "Semi-Custom" i am thinking action trued/slicked up etc.
