Which of the 'blued' colours do you think works best? I've been interested in cerakote as an alternative to bluing.adamjp wrote:Ideally I always remove the barrel if I can as it makes the job better in the long run. It is easier to Microslick the bolt abutments if the barrel isn't in there. Also makes it easier to blank off the barrel and ensure no Cerakote gets into the barrel (a nightmare scenario I am not keen to have).
Achieving the same colour grade is down to the product mix and the curing temperature. I've found that if I use the same mix for barrel and action, and then put them in the same oven they come out the same colour. I have had some shockers though, and won't use SOCOM Blue anymore for that reason. It is very difficult to get the tone exactly the same with that particular colour, even from one end of a barrel to the other.
Over the next day or two, Jason should be posting some photos of these on his Pierce action.

It was hot and windy at the range this morning so not fantastic for photos, but here is pic of the 6x47 back together with its newly coated barrel. Thanks for the coating work Adam.adamjp wrote:Over the next day or two, Jason should be posting some photos of these on his Pierce action.

Re: Cerakoted some barrels today
No-one has asked me to do a shotgun yet. The curing temperature will be suitable for the soldered barrels.
Plenty of 22s and centrefire rifles. Got a PWS T3 to do after Christmas, and a 7615 as well.
