New Walnut For a Sako
Last weekend I went and picked up a piece of 3X Hatchers walnut from a more mature Ausvarmint member. It was roughed out to fit a Sako varmint L461, the barrel and action had been bedded and test fired with great results.
So he just wants it sanded and finished just like the CZ I did. But the trouble with visiting him he starts pulling out all these other nice rifles. Ohhhh and this ones for sale, special price.... try this night vision.... look at this bit of walnut....maybe tempted . .
Glad I don't carry a cheque book anymore.
Anyway I got home and spent a bit of time just looking at the stock and scanned the net for inspiration and made a plan. Remember I am just a beginner on this stock work but went with what I thought was right and took to it with the router and belt sander to get rid of a bit of the bulk and trimmed it down to what a small action Sako should be. Then started cleaning up.
Still a bit to do and more pics to follow. Then today a parcel is left on the door step. Dillemma is do I have a shot before or after picking up the tools ? It tastes nice, especially the second one. Can I drag out the job long enough to get a second bottle? He's a good bloke to work for.
More progress and pics later in the week

Looking good Bruce, I was lost when you mentioned "mature member" but I twigged in the end

Re: New Walnut For a Sako
I misinterpreted the thread title.
I thought it meant that you traded a Sako for a walnut, it must've been a good walnut if that was the case.

Sounds like I’m lucky not to live near this senior person who is a tempter.
