Winchester 9422 extraction issue
So my winchester lever action is having extraction issue where it won't pull out the spent round. But if put pressure on the the claw with my finger it pulls the round.
After reading a bit on how to pull the action apart the is ment to be 2 springs the run at a 90 degree angle to the base of the extractor claw and these can get tied up on each other reducing spring tension on the claw hence issue (if this is indeed the issue).
My question is should I have a crack at fault finding and repairing the issue or should I just take it to my LGS?

If you think you're handy enough on the tools it's worth a try. However, as soon as you strike any problems (particularly those involving forcing stuff) pack it all up and visit a gunsmith.
Hint: If you're pulling apart anything that may launch small springs, screws, and the like across the room then disassemble the part in a plastic bag. That will capture any errant parts and save a lot of floor searching and swearing.
PS. I am not a gunsmith

Recently spent an hour looking for a carb needle in the grass outside. It LOOKED attached to the float but apparently it was designed to easily fall off when you least expected it.
Couldn’t find it with a magnet (it was ferrous) but finally found it 3ft from where I expected it to have fallen. Only took 45mins.

Re: Winchester 9422 extraction issue
I would first up try squirting WD40 or similar in to see if it is just gunk that needs washing out, and again maybe after its soaked for a while, give it a blast with compressed air, if the shit can get in, it can usually get out. Might just be a case of needing a good clean out. I have only pulled one 9422 apart, but it was years ago and cant remember any tricks now, know they are more difficult than Marlin lever guns.

Good point. Flushing it out might be an easy fix. WD40 "High Performance Silicone" has a good reputation for rifle cleaning/lube.Camel wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 8:50 pm I would first up try squirting WD40 or similar in to see if it is just gunk that needs washing out, and again maybe after its soaked for a while, give it a blast with compressed air, if the shit can get in, it can usually get out. Another option, that involves little expenditure, is to get an eBay ultrasonic cleaner (about $25 plus postage). Suitable cleaning liquid recipes are located somewhere on here.
I'm constant amazed at how well it works cleaning up gunked up parts. I used the ultrasonic a while ago to de-rust a bunch of drill bits that had been through a shed fire and subsequent fire hosing. It worked a lot quicker than when I tried to clean them up manually.
FFS why did the first video I look at on Youtube for 9422's take an hour and involve milling machines!!! Hardly a quick fix for the average firearm owner.

Himself is currently sitting at the table, with pieces everywhere, muttering under his breath.
So far he's only pinged one cartridge across the room.
I'd say its going well.

I see he has the old model with the spark plug, newer ones use fuel injectors and electronic ignition
Good luck with it, make haste slowly.

Aha!
It was hilarious really, couldn't find a flat blade long handle screwdriver for quids, so he used the stihl tool.
Immediately found 6 big screwdrivers

Re: Winchester 9422 extraction issue
My bolt action 22 fails to extract after about 100 rounds cause the waxy lube off the lead pills builds up and the cases stick. And then I clean it.
Do you use lead pills with waxy coating?
