LRBR can be frustrating at the best of times due to the vagaries and substantial effects of wind, prevailing light, inconsistent accuracy from load components, barrel age and condition, shooter hold technique and inconsistencies etc etc.

however it seems that in addition to the above problems that scope 'behavior" can add another frustrating and decreasing shooter confidence factor if they don't track or hold the required point of aim.

after lengthy discussions with el jacko on this problem, as can be seen, he has come up with his scope testing tandem set up to try and determine if one of our scopes is subject to reticle movement or not.

anyone who is interested in looking further into this 'scope testing' situation should check the accurate shooter competition forum under the heading of scope testing which has been conducted by arguably some of the top 1000yd BR shooters and gunsmiths in America (and the world for that matter).

LRBR shooters, spend 1000's of dollars on march, nightforce, vortex etc scopes and assume and rightfully expect that our expensive scopes are faultless, however we may or may not have a product that meets these expectations.

jacko and I both own a few nightforce scopes and in general are more than happy with them, but we each have a scope which when replaced on any rifle, the replacement scope seems to provide improved average and more consistent grouping.

and yes, naturally we have obviously assumed initially that 'we' are the main cause of these accuracy inconsistencies.

however after a fair bit of time effort and repetition it seems that these particular scopes seem to continue to cause the weird accuracies.

even with this time consuming exercise it is hard to be sure or not if the scopes do or don't have problems.

hopefully the tandem scope tester will give us a more definite idea as to if the fault lies with the scopes or elsewhere.

cheers
dave

off the subject, back in the mid nineties on my 30x57 ugly fly gun, at one time I did place a second scope on the rifle stock to enable me to better see the majura wind flags as the scope I was using had a very narrow field of view.

Wow, there was a read for the perfectionists! Thanks for the post.
And now Jacko's "can of worms" comment goes to another level....
