I guess that just goes to reinforce my point. Maddco make a great F Class style barrel in 308, but the recent ones don't perform for LRBR, the longer bearing surfaces and larger capacity cases don't seem to work with an overly tight barrel. Bear in mind I am only talking 308 here, 6mm barrels are great.

Interesting observation Jeff. I'd be interesting in reading any further details you're willing share on the forum or you can PM me if you prefer.

I can understand the concept of tight 308 bore/land vs groove dimensions for the traditional fullbore/TR projectiles. It would be good to get a better idea of what the limits are and if they are applicable to other calibres?

If it was one i learned about barrel manufactures since 1985 it was i will stick to the ones that give me what i order in the 1st place .. Since 2003 i have ordered a barrel for the H/G with the exact same spec ,simply because the initial one Worked .. That's over 10 barrels @ 30 cal SS/ 13.5 twist / .3000x .3080 /4 groove 1.500 dia for 6ins tapered to 1.250 at 30ins .. A manufacture's tolerance of .0002 either side of My spec is OK with me but what i won't accept is anything else .. I got one in 2012 that was way outside this dimension and i wasted a whole competition year waiting for a good one to come from the states .. Guess which brand i would never buy again.. If i ever return to shooting again i have a Tobler , a Krieger and a Broughton brand new in the cupboard ready and on spec.. JR.. Jeff Rogers

Not that hard mate Maddco 1:13 twist (I am assuming F Standard 308 shooting 155's) Palma profile

If using 155's I would probably go the maddco 1:12 for the longer bullets like the BJD HBC and berger hybrid and fullbore projectiles. If shooting f std I would get a HV profile and keep weight as high as possible if you can. You will get a couple of chambers out of it. If your not doing any competition and just want something to shoot with I would go a palma profile to save some weight. Its pretty darn close to the remington varmint profile.

Yeh a 284 wouldnt be my choice to run in an omark but a 7-08AI would be fine.

If your staying with 155's use a maddco, if trying heavier bullets look around. I know bartleins are in Aus now and would be my next choice to try if running 185+gr bullets.
