If the tenon threads were cut under spec there would be room to "grow" into the receiver threads - mebee?

Yes this could happen but you would know by the rattly fit in the receiver..

As Albow has explained above, the thread relief at the chamber mouth was likely the cause of the expansion in this barrel..
