I am looking for options for the trigger in my long range 7mm rem mag - Stevens 200. The trigger is just way too damb heavy for longrange stuff. The stock trigger has been tinkered with as there is polish marks on the sear and engaging area, seams to break ok just heavy.
I have a SSS trigger assembly in my Stevens 223 and it is freaking awesome but they no longer send to Australia and don't have anyone that distributes them here either so after what other cheaper options are out there that anyone has used?
Cheers
James

Re: Savage/Stevens Trigger Replacement
I think timney do one but not cheap. But I like mine in the old Mauser it's adjustable and simple .... I even tinkered with it.
Are you on the savage forum? Pretty sure you replace the wire that acts as the spring on them too.
I sold my sss as sold action in end. But looked up other options but it was a while ago. Rifle basix do I think too.

Re: Savage/Stevens Trigger Replacement
Rifle basix do two triggers, one about $85, the other $150ish.
I did this to my Stevens 200, and it has made the trigger substantially better:

I also found, if the stock is 'lost' and replaced with a better one, like a boyds, groups will get much tighter. Too much flex in the plakky stock.

Re: Savage/Stevens Trigger Replacement
Thanks for that link, I had seen it before but couldn't find it. Looking at what they have done in regards to polishing the sear etc is what has been done to mine but it still has the stock spring. My wife knows a good piano tuner so I will see if I can get an offcut of piano wire and see how much difference it will make though. I have heard good things about the rifle basix triggers but they are getting up there $$ wise, might look into the Timney triggers a a cheaper alternative.
Yes Chrispy the standard grey plastic stocks are fairly rubbish and 2 out of 3 of my Stevens have been upgraded to Boyds laminated stocks (one feather weight thumbhole and one varmint thumbhole). They make a hell of a difference in the shootability of the rifles - 7mm rem mag was rather pleasant to shooting off the bench yesterday
