Cupla Pics

Post by MISSED »

I bought some pure beeswax from a Bee Keeper and melted it down (ala melt chocolate style) When in liquid form I added Gum Turpentine. And this is the result

.
I used it on Camels Brno 601 stock after I had given it an oil finish.

I have yet to use it on Glenns stock but I will so here are some before shots

Bloody nice work. I much prefer an oiled or waxed finish over a high gloss finish.

Is the Brno a .308' or has it been rebarrelled to 7/08?

How do you approach chequering? Do you tend to repoint it when you refinish a stock?

I tend to very carefully take the old finish off, and basically leave it until the very end when it gets a light coat of wax with a toothbrush. I would love to know how to chequer stocks.

Marcus when I strip the old finish I use a scrubbing brush and HOT water to remove any finish from the checkering. Then I just apply the XXXXX to the whole of the stock checkering and all.

When I have achieved the finish I want I clean the checkering out with a tool then apply XXXXXXX and then buff.Glenns stock has an XXXXX finish it will get the final XXXXXX in the next few days.

Its amazing just how much grain came out of the stock that he has finished for me, its bloody amazing. Every time I open the safe, I take it out and give it a polish with some flannelette, its getting better each time I do that, I think anyway. It seems to be getting a bit darker as well, but maybe that's wishful thinking.
Yep its the one that is now a 7-08, I cant wait to see the finish on the other one he is doing.

Thanks for those pictures mate. :D

    Hey Camel, that flannelet hasn't also been used for polishing black shoes has it? That might explain it getting darker!
