6BR and Tikka t3

Post by albow »

Thinking of a bit of a project and was just wondering if anyone has played with a 6BR in a t3 and been able to get it to feed from the magazine?

If so what was the set up?

From a really hazy memory, I think it was the Tikka 595 with 22/250 magazine box that was a straight forward way to get a repeater. I don't think the T3 is in the same boat. I feel that at this point in time, if you wanted a repeating 6mmBR you'd be best looking at the Savage offerings. Even the Rem700 magazine box conversions/modifications seem to be a bit hit and miss on whether they work reliably or not.

Otherwise ... just use as a single shot.
Cheers...

Albow, some years ago TZ built a very slick little number on a M55 of 22/250 base magazine size that was a switch barrel in 6BR, 25BR, 7BR and 30 BR. It was later left as 30 BR and i believe Danno (Wiz) has this rifle in the NT now after Earl Mac sold it to him. Earl had it as his deer gun in 30 BR but was also fitted with 22/250 and 7/08 barrels.
TZ has been making magazines from stainless to fit M55s as originals are hard to come by and rust easily. I have seen a couple and they are as like factory except in stainless, but more importantly can make them for any caliber. I saw one the other day for a T3 in 308 as well and they are what the factory should have made. He won't do commercial but a mate like you or I could get one in a couple of years .
The point is 6BR can be done and has been done as I know he did one and I believe still has the barrel and magazine for his T3. The rifle never sold so I can assume all the 6 or 7 barrels and magazines are still there. He probably won't remember but it will be there in all that crap somewhere.

Thanks Con, yeah single shot is probably the majority of the use it will get just wondering how hard to make it a repeater.

Monoon, I thought TZ would have had a play in this area and will have to chat to him about it when I see him again. With regards to getting one in a couple of years, he might show me what he has done and I can have a crack at making my own  Looking at the standard plastic mags I think there is a way to mod them and get them to work. Was just curious if anyone else had done it.
