Well we have been in the newsagency for 2 months now and very little time for shooting.
Have been manageing to get to the pistol club about every 3rd week, have only managed one hunting excussion and one afternoon with a few mates and family plinking and trying to destroy a box of clays.
Suprisingly the scores at pistol club have been very near or have been PB's, amazing what no expectation of a good performance does to your scores and I'm finally shooting a shotgun with both eyes open.

Have a trip to Leeton this Sunday, hats off to the boys over there, they are taking 12 kids each day for a couple of weekends from Yanco Agricultural High and showing them what target shooting is all about. They will carryout licence testing etc in a month or two for those that are keen to carry on with shooting.

Ammo and shooting accessories have been slowly ticking along in the shop and today accounted for 20% of turn over.
Might end up as a gunshop that sells newspapers instead of a Newsagency selling ammo

Where abouts is the shop? if im down that way one day ill pop into

Australia's first "Guns & Ammo Newsagency" <----- This might be a golden opportunity 8)

with the emphasis on, customers come in to buy the paper and end up buying a gun or ammo too!

Adelong about 20mins off the Hume Hwy, 1 hour east of Wagga.
Not doing guns at this stage as I don't think sales would cover licencing and associated costs.
Slowly building up the ammo and accessories range, but just to cover the basic accessories and common cals adds up to quite a few $ and it is a side line to the Newsagency business.

There are a few Newsagencys selling ammo in country areas not sure about any selling firearms.

WRONG! I under estimated her powers of negotiation.
Top little shop, and it was busy when I dropped in today, I met 220's lovely wife and have forgotten her name already, nice display of a range of gear that would get anyone out of trouble.
Had fun at the snow BTW, 20-30 cm's and saw brumbies, roo,s bunnies, a feral cat, and some emu's, and 1 ecidna the kids were wrapped, beautiful country up your way 220.

My father in law had a news agency in Sydney 25 odd years ago and he sold stirling's and boito's as well as ammo and said he sold a lot of guns.

Easy just let the wife do all the day to day stuff
Cheri had been working here part time for 4 years and a bit of relief work at other newsagencys so had the actual day to day running covered before we took over.
As for me well my entire sales experince amounted to a year or so working Saturdays in a hardware store and selling a bit of shooting gear from home. Big learning curve for me cash register isn't to hard being touch screen, lottery terminal is a bit more intimidating but thats why we have 50mil liability insurance
I'm still working maintenance at the local mill so doing 45hrs a week out there and then a couple more in the shop weekdays and weekends.

As for what it's like I am finding it quite enjoyable, being in a small country town you know most of the customers and if you don't you soon do. Like knackers all the visitors have nice things to say about the district and if things are a bit slow you can always have a chat.

Enjoying the challange of running it as well, like being able to decide what dirrection we are heading etc, plenty of oppertunity for diversification as well. Ask the same question in 5 years time and the answer might be different but at this stage we are both loving it.

Good on ya 220.

A good read, and I hope it all continues to go well.

Bit of a trip to come visit, but you never know.

regards, curan
