New ballistic tips from Sierra

Post by Brad Y »

Introducing the wadcutter ballistic tip.

On a serious note- its now 0.539 cents per 55gr SBK here now and its bad enough having to pay that, but getting projies like this in the box is a bit off putting.

I still have boxes of Sierra projectiles that state on them "101 projectiles in every box ". Mind you --that was a long time ago. It must have been the extra one that made up for those bloopers.

Nothing wrong with a good Wadcutter, I always say!

Send them a nasty Email. I got a 180 grain bullet in a box of 150 grain sierra bullets once. Good thing I noticed it as it would have sent pressure through the roof.
I sent them a nasty Email and they sent me a Tee Shirt.

How did you spot it?
Bigger mass?
Or do you weigh each bullet?

It was actually one of the last few bullets in the box. I looked in the box to pick one out and spotted that one was longer than the others.

Oh Yeah, Sierra also sent me a hat as well as the Tee Shirt.

I don't think they wanted me to tell anyone about it.

No Need to send Nasty emails.
Just a polite email stating the problem and letting them know that you are disappointed in the workmanship of the product and ask them what they can do about it. If they say nothing then say thats not good enough.

The Email I sent them went along the lines of what could have happened if I was running hot 150gn loads and then dropped a 180gn bullet into the case.
It may have got NASTY for me and my rifle.

They saw the point and were very sorry. But I wonder how many of the rifles that have blown up over the years have been the result of something like this happening?

I reckon a few, and once the bullet is fired, there's no real way of telling it was the bullets fault. Im guessing the shooter would be getting blamed for either loading too hot, or double charging..

In your case mate I totally understand I would have freaked out too, that is very dangerous. As far as faulty polymer tips go, mistakes happen. Its not good but even the best companies in the world have faulty goods. If they are jerks about it then by all means kick up a stink.

G'day Brad,

I would definitely send them a Diplomatic letter, I would also let them know that you have the 'Watch Tower' society on the case.

Who knows they may send you a box for your troubles.

Wadcutter,

I have walked out of Horsley Park having purchased what I thought were .224 55 grn V-Max's only to realise that they were 6mm, in one instance I actually didn't realise until it came time to reload and after having unpacked all of the necessary reloading equipment realised that they had given me projectiles for .375 instead of .338. Fortunately they exchanged them, however, it still cost me fuel and a day off work to make the return trip.

It could have been worse, I could have been a newbie and not at all savvy with reloading and could have ended up like Achmed the suicide bomber.

Regards

Sean
