I have a perfectly good Tikka T3 in the perfectly capable 243 Win but...

I have been getting some dangerous Ideas...

I have been flicking through my reloading manuals and looking at cartridge diagrams and I have been thinking... rechambering to 6-284 shouldn't bee too hard would it now....

Damn it.

Trevor T is correct---- I did excatly what you are thinking of--- rechambered a 243 to 6mmx284. Not worth the hassle--- cases, dies, turning necks----- I didn't really gain much velocity at all---- although I only played with 105 gn'ers

G'day Mevo,

I bought that 6mm 284 that Mal was talking about, to date I have developed a load utilising Vihta Vuori N 560 and utilising 107 grn Sierra Match Kings, I am also receiving consistent velocities of around 3450 fps with absolutely no signs of pressure and I am still running the factory barrel.

Given the cost associated with having a new barrel fitted I also intend to trial a new product available from Otis marketed as Barrel life liner (hoping that I may get another 1000 rounds from the barrel).

http://www.otisgun.com/cgistore/store.c ... 1&cart_id=" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But for the effort and the cost associated with fueling, including what it would cost you to have that .243 rechambered they are not worth the trouble.

You're best of sticking with that .243 and experimenting with a double based powder, perhaps N 560.

Regards

Sean

Shoot Con a PM, he has a heavy 6-284 barrel (Madco i think) he will sell, get it screwed on and have a play with it, if you get bored or its not what you want you can screw the 243 back on, no harm done!!
