I have been doing a bit of reloading just lately and have started getting serious about prepping my brass. I bought 100 new remington 223 cases and did the whole flash hole deburring and primer pocket uniforming thing. I have to admit that I was appalled at the amount of burr on the flash holes. Some were that bad that I couldnt hold the case when using the cordless drill to drive the flashhole deburring tool.

I then moved to doing some once fired 30-06 brass. I had 60 Rem cases to do and 250 Highland cases. In nearly every case there was significantly more brass removed in the remington cases compared to the highland brass. Infact there was more brass removed from 60 cases than from 250 of the highland cases.

Is this normal?, Is Remington that shit in its QC?

In fairness I have run into crap brass from just about every supplier at some stage.I like rem rifles but find their brass very soft and inconsistant.I have had more split necks and seperations in rem then anything else I've used.
One of the best runs of brass I ever had was PMC that just kept going and going.
The only rem brass i use is in the 22-250AI where for some reason only known to the gods I am getting unbelievable life.(go figure).
Isn't case prep a soothing expierence.

just like the quality of their R700's has been going down over the last few years- according to remington buyers I have spoken to
I buy old school tikka so I wouldn't be able to comment directly

the highland brass is made to Euro specs so I's not supprised it cleaned up easier and better

I got my first ever purchase of Lapua (.223 and .308) brass recently from HSS....after using Win and Rem in the past the Lapua seems to be a long way ahead in the quality stakes. Too nice to lose in the field though...

It wasnt that bad. I set up in the lounge room, put a dvd on the telly, cracked a beer and just went for it. One advantage of being divorced I guess no one to bitch at you for working in comfort.

I will buy top quality brass for the 204 but camels and donkeys can come thick and fast and you dont have time to find it all.

I too will not but Remmington brass anymore due to the same reasons above.
I am using Winchester brass for my .204Ruger now, but even that has some weird black stains all over it, and inside too!
Does anyone know what this is????

Its funny how they both claim to make "the finest" or "highest" quality brass. What a joke.

I am considering buying some Hornady brass, but there goes all the load development!

When you talk about poor quality brass, try nosler competition brass. You pay a heap for it. During the case preparation process the warning signs start to show, but when after two reloads with under maximum loads, the primer pockets expand so much that a newly seated primer falls out of a fully re-sized case, you know your on a winner.

Lapua seems to be the only brass that has lasted the distance for me, am back to using lapua 3006 AI cases that have bben reloaded in excess of ten times over nosler brass that didn't last two reloads.

How many shooters have had the same experience with nosler brass?

I know a few blokes who payed money for the Nosler stuff only to be very sorry they wasted their time and money. Reports include brass not batching well, lots of prep to get concentric and short life even when annealed so your not on your own.

I find when looking at new chamberings now, the first thing I look at is brass availability if I can't get Lapua or RWS I generally don't look any further.

It would be interesting to hear how these companies feel about our opinions on the quality of their products.

I know that the company I work for (automotive ind) has measures for continual improvement in quality control.
We have charts and more charts on customer satisfaction processes.

It seems strange how we all have very similar opinions of the same brands!

Yep it's shit!!!!

Split necks on firing primer pockets were that tight i bought a new primer seater because the old Lee auto prime wasn't up to the job.

Have had a good look at them.I rekon they are made by Federal.

only hirtinberger brass I can get is 6.5x55 stuff sorry
