Bullet choice with the 204

Post by jb747 »

Thus far we've mostly been shooting the 39 gr Sierra from the 204. Results have been excellent. But, we are expecting delivery of a new barrel soon, so that the other 204 can be made up, and it has a slightly faster twist than this current rifle. The intention with the new rifle is for it to shoot the 39/40/45 gr bullets, and to move the current rifle down to the 32s.

Right now I have available:
32 gr Sierra BK
32 gr Hornady Vmax
39 gr Sierra BK
40 gr Hornady Vmax
40 gr Nosler BT.

I intend doing some bullet testing next time I get near the range. Most likely I 'll just use 2206H for the 39/40 gr stuff, and probably BM2 and 2206 for the 32s. I've got enough 2206 to last for a while if that turns out to be the best powder.

Be curious to hear what sort of results (accuracy and velocity) others have had with this range of bullets.

JB, if you remember the grouos I showed you at Little River, they were with the 40NBT and 27.8gn of 2206h. While the 39 sierras group well when loaded short enough to fit the magazine the NBT grouped better stretched out and loaded single shot style.
