HB's 17hmr group

Post by Ned Kelly »

g'Day all,
here are the photo's of HB's 17hmr as I shot it at 100yds. I was aiming for the left hand bullseye just above the number 2 and did not allow for wind. So for the same 5 shots you will see the effect of grouping if you can imagine the overlap of the 2 & 3 shots, as well as the amount of drift out there.

Since you will see 2 groups (2&3 shots) you can see 2 separate and different wind speeds. note the single hole at the top of the number 4

Eveyone who shoots IS EFFECTED BY WIND, so please learn just how much hold off you need for your load and rifle.

Image
aim point was the left hand bullseye off a bipod, no rear bag used.

Image
The 3 bullets in the aimpoint were from later shooting with a 6ppc. Wind was measured with a kestrel wind meter as averaging 10mph (7-13mph)

Image
you can see the group was less than 2" wide and not much more than 1/2" high.......excellent performance

hope this helps

G'Day Kenny,
sorry to disappoint, they were shot with the old 3000+ maddco on the Hall.
I'd just fitted a leupond 36x and wanted to zero it for some shooters to have a go at a BR rifle.

If you want to see a typical 5 shot group from it, look closely and see the very top left corner of the first photo above.

That was not the load I used in Portland recently. It was only 28.1gns BM2, whereas from memory, it really seems to like 30.6gns.......i might have to do some more testing!
