G'day
I sold my 1/4 bore 9 months ago only because I did not like the rifle I had it in but the calibre is flat shooting and hard hitting and I would definitely have another.
I mainly used 90grn sierra hollow point boat tails, 2213SC and large rifle magnum primers, It was fantastic on everything from rabbits to goats.
Its a very forgiving cartridge when it comes to reloading and you should have no prob finding a load that works well.
Im a big sook when it comes to recoil and the 25/06 is a good giver in that department depending on projectile weight.
You have a fairly hefty gun so it should not be a problem.
I have great memories of arvo's spent vapourising bunnies with the 25 from short to long ranges and I mean up to 400-500 mtrs if you are capable, the calibre definitely is.
Regards
Damien Webb.

Mate,
2209 with the 75grn Hornady V Max are absolutely the ducks nuts for long range varmiting .. (I run 56 grns in mine)
The 90grn Seirra Hollowpoints are a good shooter for bigger game like pigs and goats etc with 2213SC (I use a load of 54 grns)
I have found that thesee two loads are all I need for most applications although I do have some 120's for the odd deer.
Win M70 Featherweight with 6.5-20 x 44 Vortex Viper scope
cheers

Got my 25-06 as a reserve pig rifle, so only run the one load of 53.5gns (warm but safe in my stick) of 2213SC behind a 117gr Hornady SST. Remington cases, winchester primers, seated .020" off the lands and it shoots under minute of hog out as far as anyones pointed it at one.
Excellent cartridge for a 25cal, laser like shooting with a 75gn Vmax @ 3600fps or the 3000fps I'm getting behind the 117gn.
Remington 700 BDL and Elite 3200 5-15x ....

That was going to be my next Q Hiwall, 2213sc and 2209 seem to be the pick for the 25 and I was going to ask about pros & cons of each, but your 'rule of thumb' has straightened that out for me!! Just cant wait for that bloody yellow slip now so I can play, but its looking like it wont be till after chrissy Ray said due to the usual chrissy rush.

Mod 70,
I use CCI or Federal 210 usually although any large rifle primer will do the job.
groo,
The 25.06 handloaded treads on the heels of the 270. The main differences are bullet weights. The 270 is legal for deer in Vic while the 25 isnt.
IMHO the 25 is a far better all rounder as it can varmit and take down medium to large game .. the 270 is not as flat shooting for varmit work but will work well as a med to large game rifle.
cheers
