I'm prepping some 270Win to reload and was counting projectiles in an already open box to ensure I had enough (without opening another).

In doing so I found a rogue projectile that clearly doesn't match the rest.

Instead of being a Hornady SST 140gr it measures out as a 153.2gr .284". Looking at the Hornady site I figure this is a 7mm 154gr Interlock SP.

Luckily for me this was an easily recognised 'out of place' projie, but what if it hadn't been...

Has anyone here came across mixed projies in an OEM box before? I may have to pay more attention.

I had a couple of 7mm in a box of 500 Sierra 70gn blitz king 25 cal, easy to see as they were longer, I didnt weigh them though, just chucked them in the bin.

While I can understand the rare mix up at the factory you'd think the procedures etc. would limit that sort of mix up.

Mine were easy to spot, a SP amongst polymer tipped. Then I noticed the cannelure was positioned differently and it was flat base. A quick check with calipers and my eBay scale indicated it was a different weight and size.

Even if I had missed all those clues I think I would have found it during bullet seating.

I had 2 68 grain 6 mm Berger’s mixed in with 55 grain 22 cal pills in An unopened box years ago
