Hi All,
Not sure if this has been done or at least discussed.
Has anyone run a 204 reamer in to suit a 222 case?
Just thinking about a build in 20 cal on a sako action.

No, his version will have the short neck and shoulder angle of the 204 Ruger

A 204 shaped case ie neck and shoulder but only the length of a 222.
A 204 reamer run in short.
That way you can use standard 204 dies trimmed down.

Beat me to it

My JAB 20 was made with a 204
Reamer run in short and also run into the sleeves on a set of Redding comp dies. It uses 223 cases with the shoulder pushed back 30 thou to lengthen the neck.

The trouble with running in a 204 reamer short is the case taper. I couldn’t extract cases until the chamber was opened up with a 20 practical reamer

Trimming the dies won’t work, your cases will be too big in the rim and won’t fit. Even your chamber will end up too narrow at the rear

If you do a search on the board you should turn up a thread by Jethro ?(I think)

He had Keith Hills run a 204 reamer into 222 length from memory he used a 222 body reamer to get the case base dimensions right.

Basically ran a 204 reamer into his 222 dies I think it was called a 20/222 Short Hills.

This going from memory and it was probably 8 years or more ago.

If I shorten a 204 die i'm guessing it should FLS it ok as the diameter at the base will be smaller than standard as it will be part way up the taper on the die?
Practice trumps theory any day so trevorts experience has me thinking.
If the reamer was used to chamber AND make a FLS die there wouldn't be any clearance?
Would this give extraction issues?
I'm guessing the FLS dies should be somewhat smaller than the chamber?
Are you happy with the 20 JAB as an interesting wildcat?

It will not fit, the base of the case will not squash down enough, it is not theory, it is fact

Mate I ended up with the Jab 20 as I wanted a Tac20 and the Smith didn’t have the reamer. Jab 20 is a bit of a joke as it is nearly a Tac 20. Ol 55 has a tac 20 and looking at the cartridge the naked eye can’t see the difference. We tried chambering each other’s rounds. One went into both rifles, one wouldn’t chamber in the other. Can’t remember which way round. But cut a long story short, if the Jab 20 appeals, do it properly and get a tac 20 when you can buy reamer and dies that you will work without frigging around
