In accordance with this thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24529 I've dug out the bits 'n' pieces to make the things that make the old 222 go bang.
Well most of the bits.
I used to load it with w748 or 2206 behind 50gr Hornady SX's.
I gather that neither of these powders are currently made. So what would be the suggested replacement?
It is a Rem 788 and I found a box of the 50 grainers so I'll use them first.

Re: Showing the 222 Rem some Love
I just dug out some of my load notes:
50gr Hornady SX and Winchester Small Rifle Primers
2206 was consistent from 21gr to 23gr
Turns out I used 2208 as well 22.5gr and 24.5gr
The W748 was 23 or 24gr with 52gr Remington Match Projectiles, Vithouri primers.
Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Will be watching this thread develop. No secret i favor 222 over any other 22 cal. And i have had heaps. Still do.
For those reading that have not had a 222, you are missing out on the easiest most rewarding cartridge ever made. To have not owned at least one in your lifetime is un-Australian.

Re: Showing the 222 Rem some Love
In the Sako I used to run 21.0gn of BM1 in Rem brass with a 40gn v-max for around now 3000fps, but recently changed over to AR2207 and found accuracy with 21.7gn paired with either the v-max or a 40gn Nosler Varmagedden was about the same but netted an extra 400fps.
The Anschutz is fed 19.5gn AR2207 with a 40gn v-max in Rem brass and dawdles along at 2800fps, which is ample for a walk about fox whistling rifle in these parts.

Might have to set up a 222 challenge in a couple of weeks
Tightest group
Longest kill shot
Most consistent gong hits
Best looking combo
cheapest and best accuracy for dollar
