body sizing loaded rounds- possible or suicide??

Post by ogre6br »

HI
I must not have set my FLS correctly and I have brass that is once fired, re-sized and then loaded and now it won’t chamber. I can get the bolt almost down but not enough for the rifle to go into battery.
I have a redding body die to suit can I just re-size the body on a loaded round without putting myself in danger.

I would really prefer not to have to inetia pull 520 rounds of loaded ammo.

thanks

Ogre,

I have done it before using a redding small base body die. It shouldn't be a problem if it is only re-sizing the body. Lube the body of the case with Imperial sizing die wax and try one.

Ogre,

Just wondering if that is the trouble or something else is wrong :?:

I have never seen a FL die adjusted wrong ¿ even if you did not get the shell right into it, it has still sized the neck enough to hold the projie, and a standard chamber is a fairly 'sloppy' fit, so in effect you have kind of used the FLS die as a neck die, the shells should go in no problems unless of coarse you are using them in a different barrell/chamber......just a thought

but pulling 520 rounds beats losing a body part!

If they are compressed loads would shrinking the body be enough to force a grain or two into the flash hole and put pressure on the primer compound?

Are the primers seated flush? That was enought to give me same problem in a few 300 wsms. I could close the bolt but with some force.

Scaryest thing I have ever seen was someone realising that they had a bunch of proud primers in a batch of 44mag handgun reloads and putting the loaded rounds into his Lee Auto Prime to give each one a squeze to seat the primer fully.

Imagine the recoil through one of these if one went off ?!?!?!?
