20 Vartarg
Hi all. Was wondering if anyone is running a 20 Vartarg using Lapua brass and what powder they are getting any love with? I'm using 07 with some accurate results, but would love a bit more speed. I'm only pushing 16.5gr for about 3500 with a 20gr blitzking/v max/nosler. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 20 Vartarg
Yeah mate a Vartarg lover right here.
16.5 grains of 2207 is an extremely mild load
IN MY RIFLE I am using 18.5 grains of 2207.
I originally started at 17 grains and worked up at 18 I thought I had found the holy grail as far as accuracy and speed go.But kept going up and the sweet spot for my rifle is 18.5 gr.
This is with Lapua and Norma brass as well.

Hi Barossa-222
Another big Vartarg fan here. Your only just down the road by the looks of it.
Ive been using Lapua brass (221 FB), Norma 223 , Win 223. Ive got a lot more brass types in various stages of forming.
Been running 18-18.1 grn of AR2207 in mine and averaging 3650 ish FPS with 32 grn Vmax- Zmax. Ive been playing with some 30 Grn HP Bergers as well with good results.
Ive not tried any other powders as yet. Don't need to really the 07 seems to do the job well for me.
Are you using a drop tube when loading as it makes a massive difference with getting powder to fit in. I made a drop tube for my funnel from a Carbonfibre arrow shaft. Works a treat.

Re: 20 Vartarg
Flip , mate would be interested in knowing just how the 30 grain Bergers performed , would they be going along pretty fast I would imagine . How much 2207 did it like.
Camel - mate how could you even suggest that to a died (oops not quite, dyed ) in the wool 17 tragic. Gods gift to bulging eyes with minimal pelt rape.
Missed - he's an appreciative fellow & thanks you , but with his purchase he's received 119 Lapua fireformed he thinks , or maybe just necked down to 2204 , & acquired another 300 Rem in 221 Fireball , he doesn't get to shoot a great lot so they should last him till eyesight goes completely. While your all in a Vart T helpful mode he also got this Redding Type S match Die set stuff & in the box were 2 smallish ( about 1/4" with a 20 hole in them ) with "Redding" 227 & 226 showing on each one. Any of you experienced handloaders able to throw so light on what the could be used for ??
Thanks , as usual

Re: 20 Vartarg
They are neck bushings Barry. I imagine you will use the .227 one with a .012" thick neck.

Re: 20 Vartarg
Barry if they are the nitride coated bushings (bronze sort of colour) they cost about 45 each. Good score

Re: 20 Vartarg
The nitride one is 45 and the stainless is 25. Still a score. Hopefully the nitride coated one is the one you need as no need for case lube. If you screw open your neck die there may be another one in it as that's where the live

Re: 20 Vartarg
Sounds like you got a good deal with all the stuff that came with it Baz, was that your Krico 17 that popped up on U/G the other day ?
What colour projectile tip you planning on running in the V/T, I have plenty of 32 Zmax and 32 Nosler BTs here if you want a few, they both shoot bloody well in my 20, the Zmax are the cheapest though and I use them a lot. Let me know and Ill send you some up to try.
