Hi Everyone
I have some 140gr Hornady SST's for my 6.5 and wondering if anybody else has hand loaded these? They have like a cannular ring it seems on them do I need to or have to crimp these when loading?
Cheers

Klicker got it
.....should be no need to crimp.
I think crimping is only needed if you experience the pills moving back in the case from recoil whilst in the magazine.....or for a level of safety in a tubular style magazine......though I never crimp my 30/30 loads
I have crimped some old .303 loads when using a .308 pill and it is just a pain in the arse.......

Hornady uses cannelures to help keep the core inside the jacket, to assist in keeping the bullet together. One way to tell what a Hornady bullet is useful for, is to look for a cannelure, if it has one, it's suitable for game use. If it doesn't have a cannelure, it's either a varmint bullet, or a target bullet. That's straight from the Hornady manuals, and from two visits to the factory.
It doesn't always work, though
, I've had 140 BTSPs (.277 dia.) with Cannelures, explode like a handgrenade on whitetails.
