hi guys,
for some reason i bought some 6.5mm hornady 120gr a-max then realised they were not hunting bullets. my bad.
the hornady site says
Rapid, explosive expansion with limited penetration.
Recommended muzzle velocity range: 2000+ fps.
These bullets are not recommended for hunting.
I would have thought rapid expansion would be pretty good on light game like cats and foxes,
Has anyone tried them?
Cheers Johnty

I know Hornady do not consider them a Hunting projectile BUT they work relly really well out of my 6.5x47L.
Use them you will be impressed.

I've used the 75g Amax thru the 5.6x57 when tagging some roos, very effective

Have you seen the NZ site Ballistic Studies, he has done a lot of testing with different bullets to determine what you can expect from each bullet on different types of game and he loves the A Max's for a long range hunting bullet of soft skin game. From what he say's they tend to fragment but into large pieces so they tend to kill quite well for a match round.

there is actually 1 or 2 videos of him annealing the bullets.
i think its the amax he does with a candle and berger in a tin of water (pair submersed)

I can highly recommend that site! All the info I've gathered from him has been spot on.
I've heard A-max's are quite popular on medium game over in the states.

He tends to be more gathered towards medium sized game and up rather than varmints which is fine. I generally tend to check what he thinks of projectiles before I change or try something new.
