Is anyone using ar2207 in the 17 rem?
It isn't listed in the reloading manuals but a few people have said that it has been used with good success.
The loads were somewhere around 18-20gr from memory.

Cheers

No problem. I'm sure there were a few that were using it but I could be wrong.
I already have a few loaded up with 2208 and 8208 to run the barrel in but was hoping I could possibly use 2207 as I have a heap of it.

Thanks

you probably could but why , to dodge the high pressure you would have to load down .

be a bit like owning a 357mag and running 38spl in it i never understood that may as well

buy a porch and put a VW donk in it ?

You may as well give yourself a ahead start a use a powder that is recognized for the cal to start with. I run RL15 thru mine but had thought about giving 2208 a trot as on paper it seems to get a bit more speed.

If you go down to Waldo's 17 Rem topic Big G loaded 19.5 of 2207, he may choose to comment.
It works well in smaller capacity cases like the fireball based stuff.

I run 2207 in my 20/222, been thinking of giving it a go in my 17/222, now I know there is a bit of difference in bore size, but there wouldn't be much difference in the case capacity of the 222 case and the 17 case, a grain or two maybe ? The ADI book loads for the 17/222 are very anaemic with their top load being in line with the 17M2, cant remember if they used it in the 17Rem or not.

Thanks for the input.
I'm not too worried about speeds at the moment. I only asked the question due to having heaps of 2207 available. I might load some up a grain lower than Big G and work up from there. I originally purchased the rifle to convert it to fireball but if i can load it down there's no point in wasting money.
8208 looks like a winner on paper so will probably go that way in the end.

Cheers

I started off with 2207 with the 1/9'twist barrel and 25 grain V Max.
Deep down I didn't want the hassle of making another wild cat,(17MK4).
8 mm groups at 100 meters after working up to 19.5 grains.
I used 2207 because I had a 4 kg bottle sitting in the cupboard and had around 300 17 Rem cases.
Also thought by using less powder ,the throat and barrel May last longer than using more of a slower burn rate powder.
Less powder, less noise and velocity of a MK4i ,guess the experts will tell me that I Was going down the wrong track.
For some strange reason the previously accurate load of 2207 went to shit.
Checked the powder amount, seating depths, brass and even pasted the barrel with UPS thinking it could have been a carbon build up.

Ended up changing to 23.5 of 2208, achieved over 4000 fps and shot tighter groups than the previous 2207 loads.

Cheers big G
I will give the 2207 a try and see how it goes.
8208 will also get a run but it would be good to get rid of the 2207

Thanks

You make it sound like a bit of a task using 2207 mate, just buy another rifle in a cartridge that you can use it in, easy eh ??   How much do you have that you "want to get rid of" ?? I can always use more.

Glad somebody can get powder.

I am down to 1/2 a bottle of AR2206H and 1/3 of AR2205- so I ducked into Halls Firearms yesterday. Besides buying the wrong ammo box (Damn you misleading WSSM bullshit!)- they had 3 bottles of powder on the entire shelf. Nothing even close to what I needed.

When I was in there last time, chasing 2205- there was 6 bottles on the shelf. I was told it would be there "next week". That was like 2months ago. Ole mate there said "next week" never came. Still on order.

:( and primers are now $74dollars for a 1000 instead of $60. About time to start hassling the other 2 places I reckon.

Sounds like its time to do a bit of shop around Tex, I tend to be an opportunistic shopper, when the opp comes up I take it, things are getting scarce and going to be scarcer. Stock up fellas, most of the stuff we use doesn't have a use by date on it. :D

Yeah- although I still I think someone's stealing my powder.

I measure every lil' bit- and then store it carefully in this'd little capped brass tubes and then "pop" it's gone!

4Kg bottles are looking like the go- but I'll need a bigger ammo box... Time to dig out my Bob the Builder hat I reckon and a make a larger steel ammo/powder locker.
