Chasing a bit of info on the H20 capacity of the 300 Win Mag.

My 308 Norma Mag has a capacity of 91.4gn of water in a once fired Norma case, and I am trying to work out if this is correct - it seems very different to "published data".

The Norma is supposed to be a tad smaller in capacity to the .300 Win Mag I was lead to believe.
Yes I know all chambers are "different" etc - but if my Norma has more case capacity AND the longer neck - well it just gets betterer and betterer

Mick, the good news is you will be ahead of the 30/06, unlike most 300WM.

And once I finish my load development, will be loaded like a Magnum should be - maximum powder at best accuracy potential.

Depending on brass manufacturer it will go 92 to 94.5gns on the quality brands ..JR..Jeff Rogers

Cheers Jeff, I have read quite a bit of data with the Win Mag going anywhere from 84gns.

I recall Lapua being around 93-94grns.

308 Norma is a good case what brand of brass you using?

Norma cases, less velocity than fire forming 300 WinMag PMC cases, but hey its a Norma so may as well feed it on a Swedish diet.

Norma brass is not bad but can be soft. I used some Norma 243 brass in a 260AI and lost the primer pockets after a about 4 shots, that said the rifle shot very well. Can become costly if you are burning brass quickly then again my loads were pretty warm.
I would expect you to get solid velocities from the 308NM and be very close to 300WM speeds there is not much between them. Interested to see your results.
I would look at the 30 Boo Boo as an alternative down the track. Excellent brass (RWS) costly but lasts forever matching 300WM/308NM velocity and no belted cases.

Hi , A friend of mine from Hawks Ridge (USA) ran for many years a modified 308nm(RWS brass) he called a 30 SOB or Son Of Boo.. It had 88gns of H20 capacity and ran nearly identical speeds as my 300 Redneck at compared with my 92 gns with Lapua brass .. I think i remember at least one 6match agg(1K) in the high 5inch zone in about 2008 from him and he was over 70 years of age then .. I'm sure PTG would be able to recreate that reamer still today if you asked ..JR..Jeff Rogers

I have not got any with spent primers I could measure so I weighed them instead these are an average over 10 cases

It would be fair to say Norma would have the most capacity followed by Rem and PMC
