Silly question but I'll ask anyway.

So the recommended COAL of the .243 is 2.710" and loading my bullets at that length leaves .058" to the lands in my rifle.
Would it be safe to load the projectiles out a little more to close the gap to the lands in the pursuit of accuracy ? It'll fit in the magazine no worries.
Obviously with a reduced powder charge to work up again.

yes ...... but you won't have to reduce the charge until you get within 5 0r 10 thou off the lands

Best bet would be to measure your COAL correctly , theres several ways of doing this .It will be safe loading out to 00.60" jump no worries . I would personally start loading 00.30" thou jump of the lands and work your way in increments of 00.05" ( load 5 rounds each increment ) until your touching the lands . Then load 5 rounds with 00.5 " , 00.10" , 00.15" Jam now go out to the range and at 100 yards see where your tightest grouping occurs . easy as that
