I'm doing some research on various loads for my new 7mm Rem Mag. ADI AR2225 (Retumbo) and AR2217 (H1000) seem to be the powders for the 7mm. I'm looking at testing Nosler 150gr Ballistic-Tips and 160gr AccuBonds, as well as the Barnes 150gr TSX (just to see what all the hype is about).
Hand loads that i currenty use for the 7mm Rem Mag.
140gr Sierra SPT with 70gr of AR 2217
140gr Nosler Ballistic Tips with 70gr AR 2217
Both of these loads shoot inside an inch at 100 yards.
I have recently developed a load for the 160gr Nosler Accubonds with 65gr of AR 2217. These guys shoot into .345 inch at 100 yards. Am yet to try them in the field. Hopefully there will be some good results.
I have found that the Sierra projectiles tend to break into four pieces, opposed to expanding into a mushroom. They make for some great explosive performances on pigs and lighter game, but am a bit worried about their performance in heavier game.
Will be very interested to see how the Barnes X shocks perform.
7mmmag.. that savage of your shoots sensational groups.. I want one .. in left hand too!!
I have a Ruger M77 MKII in 7mmRM (in left hand of course) hunter profile barrel, but I manage to shoot consistently MOA at 100 meters using 140gr Nolser Ballistics and 58.5 gr of 2209. The rifle isn't too special but its never missed a pig.. at least not yet
My savage is a great rifle, it is a varmint model with the bull barrel so that may help with the accuracy. I have not fine tuned any of my loads, as the test loads always shot inside an inch at 100.
Another great aspect of the rifle is that all of my reloads shoot to the same point of impact give or take 1/2 an inch.
Klicker, nice choice of rifle as I also own the Ruger M77 MK11 7mmRM in hunter profile, I use the 120gr Hornady V-Max ballistic tip, 64.5gr of 2209, easily under MOA. Rifle is bedded and floated though…
Hi Pigg760, yeah mate people knock them and the only thing that really sucks about my Ruger M77 is that people knock em never having used one. I have to admit the trigger is a bit average, specially compared to my new savage trigger. I've thought about bedding and floating it but it shoots minute of pig and better which is all I ask of it, and its never let me down.
Yeah my trigger was standard till I went to my local gunsmith, played around with it a little and got it down to a pound and a quarter… As for the Ruger’s, all my rifles other than the 444 are Ruger, they all shoot very well (both are floated and bedded) but also shot very well out of the box…
Yeah, I'm hoping a timney will give me a fairly similar break as the accurtrigger. Otherwise I might send it off to Shane for a bit of a trigger job. No its not a stainless, blued timber, I'm a big fan of blue and timber, personally like the feel of it. But I'm not a biggot either, I like stainless for its function, most certainly. I bought the ruger about 11 years back when I was 18, I was scared sh!tless of the thing for while and new very little about centerfires full stop. Nowadays I prefer it for just lugging around and hauling around the mountains etc. The savage varmint gets a bit heavy for that!
I can testify that Klicker is no longer shit scared of his 7mm its nailed everything from bunnies to pigs, usually with pretty spectacular results seen him pull it out of his arse and nail a good billy on the run in the back of the neck
We should have had about 3 goats that day but we were all chilled out in the car cruising through the paddock with a cold one in our hands
Reloder 25 looks to be the goods for high velocity with 160gn pills . I have been using AR2213SC and WXR (Reloder 22) with 140 grain Noslers in my 7mm WSM . They perform very well . Case capacity is very similar to 7mm Rem. so should work for you too .
