223 AI?
223 AI?
G'day everyone,
as the title states, does anyone have any experience with a 223AI? I am thinking about cleaning out my 223 chamber with one. We currently have 3 223's in the house, and to be safe, I had to settle on one load for the 3 of them, which has really hamstrung my CZ as it handles a fair hotter load than our zastava or ruger.
Any experience would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Jackson.

Re: 223 AI?
Wouldn't it be easier to differentiate the loads by keeping them in clearly marked boxes, or perhaps having one particular brand of brass for each rifle (Lapua in the CZ, Rem in the Ruger, PPU in the Zastie for example)?
Re: 223 AI?
I have two brothers who would not pay attention to that mate, if they ran out of the stuff for their rifles, I guarantee they'd just grab mine and use it.JasonF wrote:Wouldn't it be easier to differentiate the loads by keeping them in clearly marked boxes, or perhaps having one particular brand of brass for each rifle (Lapua in the CZ, Rem in the Ruger, PPU in the Zastie for example)?

I had had one but I usednit for subs so I can't comment on supersonic. From what I have been told they offer around 5% more. Not a swift or 22-250 at all.

Differentiating loads? When I owned a 223 and a 6/223 I loaded the 223 up with nickel plated cases. At least I had a visual cue.
As for your 223AI, well yes, that will stop others chambering your cartridges in their rifles. And the straight stack magazine of the CZ will feed them fine.

Re: 223 AI?
Thanks for your replies everyone, big g, that page was very informative, plus a bit more research shows the main benefits are case stability, and some more performance, 80-200fps more on average it seems, which is all well and good, but by far the best benefit for me is the case differentiation, I know when I go back to uni, and the boys run out of reloads, they'll want to grab mine, or not look properly and pick mine up, so it's easier for something to just not physically chamber. I know the little cz should feed it fine, wouldn't matter if it was only from the single shot adapter anyways, as that's all I really use. The magazines are only used when I'm on a bike. Adam, re that pm on ahn, it will get to you through Keith hills hopefully ackleyising that rifle that needs the cerakote work done too!

Use a 204 rugger cased necked up to 223. Back to 222mag with improved shoulder. No matter how they bash they won't chamber one if those in a 223

I don't think I will have the case length in a cz 527 Trevtrevort wrote:Use a 204 rugger cased necked up to 223. Back to 222mag with improved shoulder. No matter how they bash they won't chamber one if those in a 223

Re: 223 AI?
They came out in 204 didn't they ? Jacko if you are getting your 223 done by that fella, make sure that the headspace is a very tight fit for factory ammo, if not you will have fun picking the pieces of your cases out of the action. Dunno how quick you want the job done, but D.D. in Wagga would be handy for you, as would the new fella who is doing smith work in Griffith, Id pick both of them over the other bloke. I can give you phone numbers if you want them.
Re: 223 AI?
Yeah mate, they did, but they were a bit short in oal I always thought, I have a 1-10 twist barrel on it, so would like to be able to utilise the twist rate, although I think it will just be fed 55 grain speer and sierra soft points or 45 grain acp's... I hve sent you a pm mate.Camel wrote:They came out in 204 didn't they ? Jacko 223 and 204 use same magazine in 527 but the 204 pill is pretty short, You could use it but you would have to have short pills

Re: 223 AI?
What did you end up doing Jacko.?
Re: 223 AI?
Hey mate,
I ended up just keeping it a .252 necked standard 223, it just wasn't worth the messing around, there was no guarantee that it would shoot as good as it did now, so I've left it alone.
