It appears that this little round is the "king of the hill" at the moment for 100/200 & 300yd Benchrest in the US.
(1) What's the popularity of it here in Oz??
(2) How successful are they with it??
(3) Are there any other hybrids of the BR case (eg. 5mmBR, etc) being used and how successful were they also??

was just reading about the 30 br last night. What about a 30 cal in one of the slightly larger variants on the br case (like the dasher) or even the 6.5x47L case.

I thought the 6mmPPC was still king of the hill for benchrest except when shooting for score, when the larger 30BR starts to pick up an advantage??? Bob at AHN has been running one for benchrest for a few years and I think Spinna (again at AHN ) has put together one on a cheap-s*@t Chinese Norinco action and done quite well at informal comps to 300m plus as a light hunting cartridge.

Yep getting SC to build me one.

Mines going to be a Short .308 hunting rifle mainly for recoil reasons.
It will be made to comp standards and in a hunter BR type stock so i can play at competitions and field rifle,3P, met sil etc.

Con has it but...it's hardly on fire shooting for score either. The PPC still dominates for accuracy at short range. Look at any ballistics chart and you will see the 30 cal pill at the BR's velocity is no match for a 6mm.

It appears to be gaining in popularity and a few people have had ....some.... success with them, but it's not a regular winner if you know what I mean

There's also the 22BR and 7mmBR, most 6mmBR's are fast twist jobs designed to shoot heavier bullets with a higher BC at long range. And it is also a contender for short range group shooting with slower twists.

I have heard they make a good varmint buster, I hope to try mine soon...just need some targets
