6mm Speer 70gn TNT bullets.

Post by Aussie steve »

I was looking at trying these bullets out in my 6-284 but I'm not sure if they would handle the speed. Has anybody tried any TNT bullet at around 3800fps and did the bullet make it to the target?

Not quite that cal, but the 55gr speer TNT in 224 cal dont like to be driven hard or spin fast. They can be made to come apart in a 22-250 or swift. Maybe just load them conservatively so they dont come apart. Or go to the 70gr nosler or sierra ballistic tips if you want to push faster.

I see, that's a pity I was hoping they'd be OK.

Never seen anything like it before ... virtually every shot seemed to have a smoke trail going down-range. Very odd ... target holes were round though.
Cheers...

Used to get the smoke trail years ago when using Winchester bulk 55gn in a 22/250 roo shooting, they still made contact and sure splattered roos heads.

i bought the ammo box (1000 i think) of the 50g 224 TNT and found them very unimpressive

as far as Paddock Pizza go's no where as explosive as the polly tips but they are acuate .

Yeah ... I may have some here too. Steve next time we catch up I'll bring my excess 6mm pills along ... but if the 67gr CopperHead hold up and shoot ... I'd just use them.
Cheers...

Hi mick, I'd love to try some Tiapans, but it comes back to supply. Knowing my luck they will shoot well and I'll run out and never be able to get anymore.

Con, thanks mate if you have a few spare 6mm's I have again sorted those you gave me into groups with less than 1gn variation and it looks like I have some usable numbers. I found why the 6mm was giving me trouble sighting in, the adjustments are haywire. I'll wind on 4 clicks and the scope moves about 8" at 50, and not just in the direction I've moved it. I've put the 4.5-14 on it now and see how that goes.
