Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has used winchester 680 in their 22 hornet? I was after a few loads that might be worth a try.

Thanks,

Yeah, I did, about 30 years ago, cant remember exactly what load I used, but either 10 or 10.5gn seems to ring a bell. I used 45gn Imperial projectiles, used to get them by the thousand for around 60 bucks.

A quick check of Uncle Nicks book, revised edition lists

11gn 680 start load with 45gners, 12gns max

Cyril Waterworth starts at 10 to a max of 11.4. This is Win BRA 680, which is an older version of the same powder, but I don't know if the burning rate was any different to WW680, I think the WW stuff was just cleaner burning.

Hope that helps you.

It and Nobles revolver #1 were the main hornet powders, 680 worked great in my old Walther.

Just remember that Winchester no longer make 680. Another powder worth looking at is Hodgons Lil-Gun which is imported by Winchester. In my k-hornet I run Lil-Gun and have found better velocity with lower pressure compared to AR2205.

How much 680 you got?
I use 13.5 of 680 with 40 VMax in my K Hornet
14gn 680 with 35gn VMax
both loads are in the upper end of the range.
