Has anyone used any of these Sierra seconds projectiles, or know what if anything is wrong with them, they are pretty cheap

I used them to:
1. run in the 22.250 Ackley fly rifle - 69 grainers - ran sub 5" @500 meters (on a fireforming load!)
and
2. used some 175 MKs for the 300 WSM @ 1000 yards - sub 11"!
now both rifles are sort of custom jobs, but they'd do for varminting and running in or even hunting with the right projies (i want to try some 165 BTs in the WSM); they're classed as seconds because they have visible blemishes anD the like on final visual inspection; might not do for benchrest , fly and so on , but give 'em a go

Most factory seconds fail on appearance only.

However it pays to be careful with them I have heard of the odd different projie turning up .. ie I know a target shooter who found a couple 175's mixed in with his Seirra 2nds 155 Palma's.

They work just fine.

I'd consider most of what Sierra sells as first quality to be seconds. I hate to imagine what their seconds are actually like...

I was thinking of useing some of the 53 Gn HP in my 22/250. I have used the first quality ones years ago and they shot quite well, the price of the seconds is pretty good at $90.00 / 500.

I"d have to disagree with Mick, I've had excellent luck with most all of Sierra's products, even some "seconds". I have visited Sierra's plant three times, they have a factory store selling said "seconds" and the "seconds" at least in .30 150SP ProHunters, shot better than the boxed bullets in my Winchester 70 .30/06, although that's an odd situation. The bullets fail to make grade if there's a lead protusion on the tip(from the forming process) or if there's some discoloration, that's it. Same quality otherwise, and it's pretty darned good. Buy and be happy!

HEY I'd have to disagree as well . Sierras may not be the ideal hunting projectiles . In that they tend to blow apart when large bones are struck. But as far as i'm concerned theyr'e one of the most accurate projectiles made .

I'd need a hell of a lot of convincing to move away from the Laps or Bergers.

As you know I shoot Lapuas at 500 and 1000yd and Barts or similar at 100 & 200.

Seirra seconds are good enough for F class at the club though, and are much cheaper.

Horses for courses mate. Not everyone needs or expects the accuracy levels you are after to be competative.

Definitely correct. It's all down to personal preference.
But for me, to even eyeball the SMK for simple things like the meplat uniformity out of the box compared with a lap or a berger puts me off enough. It would just take a lot of convincing to have me believe the SMK was up to the same standard as those 2 as an example. Probably not a bad hunting projectile or as you say, for F class club shoots.
