I have been having a reloading frenzy in preparation for Missedathon. This morning I had a press failure(the cam arm) which I made a new arm for. This was followed by a stuck 7mmREM MAG case in the FL die which resulted in a cracked frame on the press, the rim torn from the case and the die being a throw away item.

Holy bugger mate If you was closer I would have said bring ya gear here and helped ya finish.

You can still save the die though by using a stuck case puller or using the Lee method by undoing the lock nut off of the de-caper rod and using a drift punch and suitable weighted hammer and tap that sucker out of the die.

Hi Gnome. That case isn't coming out. I removed the de capping pin and used a punch I machined up. It tore the neck and shoulder off the case! What craps me off the most is the press. I still have about 80 bullets to seat. Looks like I'm getting a new press on Monday.

Oh man sucks that this has happened Hope that it never happens again for you.

With the die, try gently working either an easy-out or a thread tap into the case neck, then tap it out through the decapping pin hole with your punch, might work, maybe. Bugger when shit like that happens.

Is the head of the case still complete. If so I will post a stuck case remover first thing tomorrow, or post the die to me and I will get it out

what sort of press was it to have cracked? After a crappy lee press failure I bought a rockchucker as I thought even I couldnt kill it!

Thanks for your offers of assistance gents. The die is a throw away item. The case isn't coming out. I have tried pretty much everything including a few dirty tricks. I got them back from being on loan the other day and I should have thoroughly cleaned them before using them. Another lesson learnt.

As for the press, Trevor has hit the nail on the head. It is a Lee and its replacement will hopefully be a Redding.

I know a few of you will be thinking "I reckon I could get that case out" but trust me, it ain't coming out. The last thing I resorted to was blocking the flash hole, fitting a grease nipple to the decapping pin threaded hole and attempting to hydraulic it out to no avail. The head separated off the case. (My grease gun pumps at 10,000psi).

The most important thing here is the lesson learnt. Clean the dies and ensure there is sufficient lube on the case.

Just picked up a Redding T7 turret press from Sean here, have mounted it after having to rebuild the reloading bench to fit it in with the other gear, must say Im very impressed with it, its big and takes up a bit more room than my older RCBS single press, but very very good bit of gear. Now have set up all my F/L dies and a couple of seating dies, don't have to worry about changing dies any more. Tried it out the other day f/l sizing a heap of ADI 308 brass, formed a few down to 7mm08, found it a very smooth press to use, nice long handle, great bit of kit. At a pretty good price as well.

Mate keep your eye out for a 2nd hand RCBS Rock Chucker. Ive formed up all sorts of cases, owned it since 1974, never missed a beat.

I'll pm you my postal, send the die down, if its stuffed nothing to loose but we might have a win

Chuck the die up in your lathe and use a boring bar to cut the bitch out!

You will either fix it or fuck it so no one else can!

I got a very stuck case out of a brand new die last year be some careful use of the Dremel to cut the case body down the side and then a thin screwlever to push it out from the wall of the die.

Once I had enough to grab with the pliers it was game on with the pliers and some spray lube.

Every loading room should have a stuck case remover Ive used mine twice in nearly 40 years, its the best bit of back up kit you can have. Lost count how many times ive lent it out, I think Con has borrowed 43 times
