Hi guys can't remember and I know its been a while since Ive been on (life is fun n busy) but someone was asking if match projectiles were ok for hunting, minus all the debate, discussions, theoretical arguments and past hunting, here's one from a couple of months ago that came out of a goat's rear leg entry was in the chest facing head on at 750 mtrs
let you make the call if their ok, personally I've been using smk's and Amax's for years

yeah i agree with you 1k ,amaxs are pretty hard to beat ,havent used matchkings for years ,about 18 years ago i found that they (52 grainers) started going straight through crows maybe i got a batch with a slightly harder jacket but never went back to them ,started using Karl Kuen 52,s and never looked back between them and amaxs depending on which gun i was using one of them would shoot.
140grain SMK's out of a 260Rem I found were marginal on goats, sometimes they would kill well other times not so much. I stick to using hunting bullets for hunting now.
I often wonder if a lot of the Accubonds and interbonds are actually too hard on Aussie Game and don't open up as well as they need to!
Nosler custom competition bullets have a fairly thin jacket and I found in the past have fragmented and mushroomed the base quite nicely. Amax are rated highly by thin skinned game hunters. Never heard of SMK's reliably used for hunting.
Id say that's pretty good performance at that range, opened up nicely and obviously penetrated pretty well, might be a bit different performance at closer range though,

I have used SMK's for a lot of years, from 25 to 1000yards on a variety of game. If you hit in the wrong place, well, lets just say they perform the same as a dedicated hunting pill in the wrong place does.
Whilst I prefer the A max the SMK placed accurately drops game dead. I have never liked the idea of needing wound channels to track things. I prefer them dead where or very close to where they were hit.
The reason I still use them along with the Amax and Berger VLD's is some rifles prefer them and I won't keep a rifle that won't do a lot less then MOA.
But it really is horses for courses. If I was hunting dangerous game then perhaps I would use woodleighs etc. Since I am not likely to get to Africa or elsewhere the match projectiles take care of what I do get to shoot.
