I have read on many US forums about the cream of wheat fireforming method, but one thing I need to know is what is the local equivalent. Uncle Tobys Oats?

Do people do this much, or just use projectiles?

So when you find out why they use this method can you tell me.

Is it to save barrel life ?

Is it so they can save on projectiles ?

I have fire formed 22 K Hornet,303-25,25/06,20 PPC, 17 Mach 1V,and 6x47L and have seen no noticeable drop in accuracy from fire forming loads to full use loads this is of course in Hunting rifles.

Fireforming with bullets isnt a bad thing. Use fireforming loads to either run in a barrel or use it for what ever your going to shoot. I use FF loads for club f class shooting where scores dont matter, But have also used 22BR FF loads for my old 22BRX as varmint loads and they killed just as good as the normal loads.

Use cheap bran or semolina. When I ran a 375/08, it was a quicker way to open 243Win to 375cal. It works, just need to experiment with charge weight. You can also use toilet paper, packs in really well.

Would Trailboss be ok to use for fireforming the .243AI?
Got given 2Kg a while ago ad have no real use for it, apart from maybe some light loads for the missus to get used to the feel of her 30-30.

Mick, if the bloke doing your chamber is any good, factory loads SHOULD have a slight crush fit in an AI chamber, just shoot and form, they apparently loose a slight bit of velocity, cant confirm this, but that shouldn't matter. Something like 2 thou crush (negative headspace ?) would be good, so Ive been told.

Ahhh, ok mate, I guess you have a bad case of the dreaded cats disease, wildcat that is. It is very very contagious, especially with internet forums and the characters they contain, it doesn't take much for the to lead someone else astray. On the other hand, most wildcats do have to come from some sort of dreaded factory cartridge.

Ohhhhhh, I thought you were one of those weirdo wildcatters, reloads should be the same slight crush fit, they should form out pretty well. for the AI versions anyway.
