Went to the the range today to trial some 52gn .224 Nosler Competion projectiles that I swapped with a member of the forum.

3 shots on a crappy day ( wind swirling from 11 - 9 o'clock) with my Tikka T3 Lite in 222 Remington.

20.5gn (0.5gn Over max so be sure to do your normal work up for your rifle) put 3 shots into .799" @ 3104 (avg) FPS. at 100 meters, off a caldwell bipod

I will be doing some more slight adjustments to the load, to see if I can improve on that, but am happy with the results.

19.5 and 20gn were both slightly over MOA.

Has anyone else found that they need to drive the Nosler CC pretty hard to get good results?

Cheers

Mick

I used the 69gr ones Mick. They shot awesome groups at 3360fps. That was out of a 22BRX. The only problem was that they would zing right through foxes at long range. Closer they broke up well enough.

Cheers, Brad,

We dont have Fox's up here so small piggies should get them to fragment or mushroom well enough with good shot placement.

G'day Bidgee,

I use ADI AR 2207 in my .222.

Max for a 50gn projectile is 20.5gn and Max for a 53gn projectile is 19.5gn -

So kinda guestimated that the max would be about 20gn for the 52 gn Nosler.

Regards,

Mick

Have you tried BM2? It will give a better load density and probably better velocity.

Personally I dont rely reloading manuals for determining max loads but if you're not experienced with the pressure signs they will get you close.

Interested to hear how the load development with CC bullets continues.

I found BM1 gives slightly tighter groups than AR2207 in my Sako .222. Don't have a chrony but just based on comparitive impact points velocity must be about the same. I have'nt tried BM2.
