ADI Benchmark 8208

Post by andrewk »

has anyone tried this powder yet? looks like a replacement of AR2206 but fine grain and ADI recommend a 40gr bullet load for the 204 :D

Seems to shoot well about 0.3gr under max in 50gr loads- in an 8 twist krieger throated for 80gr bullets so pressure isnt a problem (usually run max load of BM2)

25.5gr 8208, 50gr nosler BT, lapua brass, CCI450 primer.

Havent chronied it yet. But expect velocities to be about on par with BM2

Meters very well- I reckon a tad finer grained than BM2. Seems to burn clean.

1kg tubs are a pain- luckily it shoots. Otherwise would be left with a big bottle of powder that took a long time to get through.

Probably worth the use in 204, 223 and 22-250 with light bullets- 35-40gr.

In the 223 I dont use anything under 50gr and I have had a good run from BM2 so wont be changing. 55gr bullets still better with 2208- just wish they did a short cut version of it so a drop tube will let me get more in the case.

Still waiting to try it, but I really like the idea of the 1kg tub. They should switch all the ADI powders to the 1kg tub IMO. Either that, or drop the 4kg tub to 2kg.

I like the 4kg tub- 2208 is great in that size especially for F class. I will have to start buying 2209 in 4kg soon too.

But for powders suited to varmint cals, 500gr is all thats needed. Makes alot of 223 and 204 loads. 1kg would be alright if it was priced better. Retail here for the 1kg tub is $100.

I also like the 2206H in 4kg tubs, I tend to burn a fair bit of it for Full Bore Target rifle shooting.

8208 looks good for the .222 Remington too, however there isnt any that I have seen in Darwin as yet.

Anyone have ony thoughts on how it would go in the 17rem?.

Looks a little fast for max velocities with the heavier bullets but worth trying for sure.

Flip, I used AR2206H with my 17rem. benchmark 2 was touchy and i hit pressure issues quickly. this new powder might be ok with 20 gainers though.

Cheers for the beads up
I mainly plan to use the 8208 in my 22250rem and 223 for my cousin.just thinking about maybe give it a go in 17 rem, but I'm glad I asked the question if people with more experiance than I have tried the other BM's and found it to be touchy then might not bother. Our pet load for the 17 rem at the moment is with AR2206H and 25grn HP on a good thing so why mess with it.

Sorry for getting off topic.

Cheers again

I have been getting good results with 2206h in the Swift using 50gr V-max.But I got better results with 2206 so I am considering trying some 8208 at least if it fails there I will have a good supply of powder for the 222.

2206 was the go to powder for the 204 and then they discontinued it.... :x

Hoping 8208 will bring back the goods.

AR2206 was discontinued many years before the 204 appeared in the marketplace.

8208 should be quite useful for the 204.

2 out of 3 Gun shops in Darwin are not even aware that ADI have released BM2208.

Should I be suprised.... no not really. Went into one LGS and asked about 6.5mm/.264 projectiles.... was given 2 boxes of 6mm even though they were beside the 6.5mm/.264,I was then told they didnt have any....... Then after pointing out the projectiles to him, was told they only had 100gn Sierra's. Hmm right beside that box was 3 other brands and weights.

I envy all of you who have good staff in your LGS's.
