Unfortunately my grandfather is not going to be around for much longer and he is leaving me his beloved rifles which includes an old smle 303-270. He is a ww2 veteran so the smle has meant a lot to him. I visit him every day and no matter what his mental condition is at the time, he always seems to remember that he has given me his rifle.
Id really like to use the rifle but unfortunately I have no cases or dies. Does anyone know if I can neck down normal 303 cases using 303-270 dies? Also, can anyone recommend a load for using on goats?

If you have any fired cases for it, I reckon you should look into a set of custom dies. Rifles like that are one of a kind.
This might help you out.

Re: 303-270
Dont laugh, I had one and loaded for it using 270Win dies. Keep the loads sedate and you wont need to FL size. I also have Simplex 5/8 dies which do the job and Simplex 7/8 dies can be found. Email Western Firearms in Sydney, also email Jansa Arms who whilst closed will still respond.

Re: 303-270
Thanks for the advice guys. He has some old hand dies that were made for him by a gunsmith but I'm wanting to keep those in the same condition their in so I'll try and track down some simplex ones.
Re: 303-270
If the gunsmith chambered the rifle and made the dies, be worth using them as the chambers will most likely be pretty close. Problem with the 303 wildcats is that there are so many 'variations' that getting a die / chamber match can be difficult, but as noted ... I made do with a 270Win FL resizing die to neck down and neck size, and the bullet seater worked okay as well. A 303British FL die can be used as a body die if needed to resize the base.

Re: 303-270
I bought a set of simplex 303-270 about 10 years ago when i got my late uncles rifle. All i did was run a 303 case into the FL die and start shootign them. I rnag a load with 2209 that was 2gr below the max and it shot well enoguht for what i wanted it for.
