I got quoted a price on the .308 210gn SMK projectile and I nearly fell over.

Price per Packet of 50 is $ 43.00
Price per packet of 500 is $ 363.00

What the!!!!!!!!
Does anybody know why?

Probably because they are a heavy for calibre premium bullet with a low demand. Would cost the Importer a bit extra because they would need to hold stock for longer than the more popular bullets and need to jack up the margin to make it worthwhile importing and holding them.

I buy 80gr Matchkings for my .22/250 AI (also Nosler Custom Comp) and they are pretty pricey as well.

Hey wem,
Check out the prices at the Shooters Wholesale Wharehouse , http://www.shooters.com.au they are a bit better than what you were quoted but still expensive. On some of the Yank sites they are complaining about the high prices of SMK's as well! It's a shame they shoot so well Hey.

They are only a new bullet by Sierra.. and I'd be guessing they are trying to get their money back as they would have had to buy whole new machines for them. From reports they are very good projectiles.. and it would be my guess that they will fade out the 200's and 220's, specially when the price comes down.. if it comes down.

Cheers

The VRA are selling,

200g/100@$40.00
210 don't list
220g/100@$50.00

and the SARA are selling them a bit higher.
You can see from the pricing, it doesn't add up???
The reason for looking at the 210 proj was the high BC, .645. A very slippery little sucker. This one would be a very good wind bucker for the longs.

All commodity prices, particularly metals, are very high due to demand from China, the chinks are buying up everything they can get their hands on, including copper, which is driving bullet prices thru the roof. It's tearing us in the States up, as well. :( :( :( When a lowly little .20 bullet will cost, for example, almost 20 cents apiece, something just isn't right. Luckily, I was prepared and have stockpiled a bunch of bullets, but it still pains when it's time to buy more.

g'day wem. i've been told by aJR that his contacts in the US Report that oUt of the 210MKs, 205 Bergers, and 208 Hornady a Max theere ain't much difference out to the 1000 yards; this is in top rated 1K rifles. Maybe the Hornadys shade the other two, so I'm chasing them, no luck so far, will post if I succeed.

I will have 500 208s either today or early next week. Another 500 by the end of next week. $254 including freight for 500. Ring Herrons' and the girl there will tell you who has them in stock in your State.
